2006 Larkmead Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
9 hours 51 min agoExpected this to be similar to the 2007 Larkmead based on similarities seen in tasting notes and ratings but I found the '06 to be far inferior with less fruit, a bit less body and excessive oakiness and drying tannins. To be fair I did pop and pour and it did improve a bit after open for a couple of hours but it never reached up to what I recall from the 2007. Perhaps the 2006 will improve with more time in bottle to integrate and mellow out as it's admittedly still very young but then the 2007 was a newborn ... Oh what a difference a year can make! 2005 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Éloge

Popped and poured and should have gone the vinturi and decant route as this was good but a bit one-dimensional after being open for about an hour but sitting in the bottle. Good but not as good as expected then about an hour later after half the bottle was gone it just exploded to show layers of complexity of dark, sweet fruits, soft tannins and just the right amount of toasty oak. The last half of the bottle was sumptuous. Give this big boy a couple more years or lots of air and you will not be disappointed. Another excellent effort by Anderson's Conn Valley ... love their cabernets but I think this one has them beat. (94 pts.) - Tasted 7/30/2010.

9 hours 51 min agodougsmith nailed it. After a Vinturi decant for 3 hours, I would add that it was at about hour 5 after opening that this began to show what it's really made of. Simply gorgeous on day 3 with no signs of tiring. This has the stuffing for the long haul and RdD fans would be missing something quite lovely if this were not in their cellar. Will enjoy again in 2-3 years. Recommended + (93 pts.) - Tasted 7/30/2010.

2005 Bertrand Bergé Fitou Origines
9 hours 51 min agoI think I made a mistake by not decanting this wine. With that said though I did not like this wine. It's aroma was bit of fake sheep butt meets matchsticks. I say fake because I do enjoy the barnyardness of French wines, but this one I did not enjoy. When drinking it that matchstick came through and permeated the mid palate. Had a short finish. Maybe its bottle variation, but I did not enjoy it that much. (82 pts.) - Tasted 7/30/2010.

9 hours 51 min agoAfter two hours in the decanter very nice youthful Piemonte fruit of medium intensity red cherries some smoky tar and earth. Bright, medium body, fairly smooth across the palate and a short finish. The palate could use some age but it's not designed for that. Overall, very enjoyable young table wine. 2006 Fort Ross Chardonnay Fort Ross Vineyard
9 hours 51 min agoLight toward medium straw colour with a brilliant reflection, and a rich nose of butterscotch, baked apples, persimmon and light spice. The palate was a bit sweet for my taste, but nonetheless showed purity of fruit, was well integrated and offered up good acidity. The malo too, was a bit heavy for my palate, but guests enjoyed it very much with the braised chicken in Meyer lemon sauce with garlic and herbs (thank you, Williams-Sonoma!).
