2009 Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

Straw, stone and grapefruit; long finish; acidic. (90 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2009 Domaine de la Pépière (Marc Ollivier) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie Vieilles Vignes Clos des Briords

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

Smooth stoney well balanced with nuances of peach, lemon, pear and apricot; round and soft. (92 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2005 Ridge Syrah Lytton West Vineyard

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

Deep purple in color with a bright red rim. The nose was subdued dark red fruit, but the initial taste had much more impact. Dark red cherries, blackberries, pepper and a bit of earth. Well-balanced and a lot of bright fruit. The tannins give a firm backbone, but are subdued in flavor. This wine is very enjoyable now, does not require decanting, improves in bottle for a couple of hours, and will improve for another 3-5 years; it is still quite young. (91 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2000 Vincent Arroyo Petite Sirah Greenwood Ranch

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

Getting better- very impressive structure. (92 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2006 Mollydooker Two Left Feet

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

Wow, this wine continues to mellow and show lots of diversity; on the nose getting some lavendar and Eucalyptus along with lots of red fruit. Mouth feel has really been tamed with more time in the bottle, a blend of sweet and some pucker factor, silky and medium bodied. On the palate getting a dusty raspberry and blueberry and some toasty oak on the finish. This is still a new world fruit bomb but mellowing with age. I think one needs to drink this wine within the next couple of years, not sure it will age well after that but right now is probably the best I've had since I first purchased it. (90 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2006 Killibinbin Blend

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

Good rich fruit without being cloying. Nice balanced wine. Slight bitterness (not from tannins) and lack of length keeps this below being excellent, but good QPR. (89 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2000 Gaja Barbaresco

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

(97 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

Fresh, Zesty, - Chilled, opened & drank with sunday supper of grilled chicken with italian spices and bioled artichokes with butter. Light but full, little to no acidity, on the palette strong apples mellowed to a light citrus flavor with no bitterness. Nose was mild but ever preseent. Excellent accompniament withg lightly spiced poultry or fish! (85 pts.) - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2007 Vini Menhir Malvazia Trelune Salento IGT

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

I guess i drank this a few months ago, but don't recall. I think i had a similar experience tonight, although nose is full of bright blackberries and strawberries, and the palate is light bodied, a little zippy with acid/tannins...with similar berry/fruit notes. A tad of sweetness is there which is nice. Light and simple and enjoyable - especially given "cheap" price. What i expected from region and varietal. Good food/pizza wine and also watching great episode of BSG! - Tasted 9/5/2010.

N.V. J. Moreau & Fils Blanc

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

This is not a mind-blowing wine, but it is very drinkable. Fresh, with acidity in good balance with the fruit. Impressive for $10. - Tasted 9/5/2010.

2008 McManis Family Vineyards Viognier

Sun, 09/05/2010 - 03:00

Good/Very Good on my scale. Lemon to golden in color. Peach and floral notes. Peach and Granny Smith apple on the palate. We had this with almond crusted fried shrimp and it was a pretty good match. It was also creamy and lush on its own after dinner. As it came up to room temperature, the finish lingered much more so than when it was cold. This might be best, perhaps, at cellar rather than refrigerator temperature. <Wow/Very Good/Good/Fair/Plonk> - Tasted 9/5/2010.
