I GRECO 2011 SAVU GAGLIOPPO ROSATO - CALABRIA, ITALY 750ML
By - Posted on 11 June 2012
This is one of the most dynamic, intense, complex, jaw dropping Roses I have ever experienced, a beautiful full throttled styled Rose, gushing with fresh crushed berries, dried spices and an exotic cardamom/peach finish! Drink this for the lust of the Mediterranean!
From the winery:
Intense nasal aroma of roses and strawberry beam; fresh, morbid and with a marked savourness. It distinguishes itself by its elegant and pleasant morbidness sustained by a good acidity.
Gaglioppo is a grape variety that is found mainly in Calabria in the south of Italy. It make bolder red wines and will also produce a sweeter style wine when very ripe. Here we find how it plays as a Rosato. Skin contact is kept for two days in cold stainless steel tanks. This cold condition creates a very fresh, tangy quality with hints of crushed strawberries and cherries on the palate. The texture is very round and smooth, a very pleasing style of Rosato.
