Uchizy, whose vineyard faces East gives delicious wines. It is particularly true in the case of our Mâcon-Uchizy Climat « La Martine » made from 50+ year-old vines. In the village they say that La Martine (roll the « rrr »s pronoucing « La Marrrrrtine ») once was the governess of famous French romantic poet Lamartine, a son of the Mâconnais. The soil has always been ploughed in this plot, a rather deep soil of clay and limestone, with loads of small limey stones. All contributes to the production of a rich, fruity, generous wine.
Technical notes: Age of Vines ; 50+ years Surface : approx. 0.50 ha (1.23 acres) Soil : Clay and limestone. Facing East, South-East. Some 30 km (19 miles) North of Mâcon Altitude of 200 metres (650 ft). Vinification & Ageing : Hand-picked grapes, whole berries pressing, 100% vinified and aged in oak barrel (of 228 liters each) for 11 months.
